INVESTIGATION INTO THE IMPACT OF HOME VISITATIONS ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE LEARNERS IN ENGLISH

Abstract

This study assessed the home visitation and academic achievement of the learners in one of the schools in Carcar City Division as basis for an action plan. The areas of concern included the status of home visitation in terms of frequency and duration, the academic achievement of the learners, the factors that affect the academic achievement of the respondents in English as to personal, home and environment. It also determined the significant difference between the learners’ academic achievement before and after home visitation and significant relationship between academic achievement and the factors that affect the academic achievement of the respondents in English. The descriptive method of research was used, employing home visitation as a strategy to improve the academic achievement of learners. The respondents were the selected learners through purposive sampling. The group was exposed to twice a week home visitation. The teacher facilitated the group with week’s 1–8 self–learning modules, recorded video lessons, and televisions during implementation of the study. It revealed that before home visitation, the academic performance of the learners was Poor and there were some who had Satisfactory performance. However, after the home visitation, most of the learners had Satisfactory Performance and a minimal number of learners attained Very Satisfactory Performance. With the hope that learners at risk of failing can be addressed and learners can be provided with proper guidance in learning, the researcher envisioned to strengthen the conduct of home visitation through the implementation of strategic action plan.
