Abstract

This tracer study examined the employability of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) graduates from the University of Cebu–Main Campus who completed their degrees between 2023 and 2025. The study aimed to assess how effectively the program prepared graduates for the workforce by analyzing their employment status, job placement, and the relevance of their acquired competencies to their current careers. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected from 158 graduates through a structured questionnaire based on the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) tracer study framework. Findings revealed that most respondents were single female graduates from Region VII (Central Visayas), and nearly all earned a BSHM degree. While only a few pursued postgraduate education, several enhanced their qualifications by obtaining TESDA National Certificates. A significant proportion of graduates secured employment in hospitality-related industries, primarily in entry-level positions, both locally and internationally. Communication skills, critical thinking, adaptability, and interpersonal skills were identified as the most valuable competencies in their early employment experiences. However, respondents also noted the need for stronger technical and industry-specific training to better meet workplace demands. Overall, graduates perceived the BSHM curriculum as relevant and aligned with industry needs. Nevertheless, they recommended continuous curriculum updates, strengthened industry partnerships, enhanced technical training, and improved career support services. The study concludes that while the program provides a strong foundation for employability, targeted improvements can further enhance graduates’ readiness, competitiveness, and long-term career progression in the hospitality industry.
