Parental Involvement in Relation to Learners’ Academic Performance

Academic Performance, Learners, Parental EngagementAbstract
Parental engagement in a child's education is consistently correlated with enhanced academic performance. Given this context, this research utilized a sample of 117 parents and their offspring. Most parent-respondents are older females who have attained at least a high school education, have few children, and have a lower monthly family income. The degree of parental involvement in basic parenting, home learning environment, and collaboration with teachers was substantial when categorized by factors. The results demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between parental participation and a child's academic performance, independent of the child's intelligence. Schools should facilitate open and consistent communication via regular meetings, messaging tools, and newsletters to enhance collaboration between parents and educators. Parents should be welcome to engage in school events, activities, and educational sessions to foster trust and strengthen connections with educators.
