This study provides a comprehensive analysis of early literacy development in emerging readers, drawing on the valuable insights and perspectives of Dorothy Strickland, an eminent figure in the field of literacy education. Through a systematic literature review, this research highlights four key themes: the foundational principles of early literacy development, the role of language acquisition, holistic approaches to literacy, and socio-cultural influences on literacy development. The findings underscore the critical role of creating a literacy-rich environment and fostering a love for reading and writing from an early age. Additionally, the study emphasizes the significance of nurturing language acquisition through interactive and language-rich activities. Moreover, it highlights the effectiveness of holistic approaches in promoting critical thinking and socio emotional skills alongside the mechanical aspects of literacy. Furthermore, the research underscores the pivotal influence of socio-cultural factors in early literacy, emphasizing the importance of culturally responsive teaching practices and inclusive learning environments. This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of early literacy development, providing valuable insights for educators and policymakers to enhance literacy programs and interventions for emerging readers.
