Parents’ Understanding of Child Protection Policy: Basis for Intervention

Abstract

This study examined parents’ understanding of the Child Protection Policy for Cadiz District 1, Division of Cadiz City. The researcher aptly considered the descriptive research design, incorporating quantitative data collection to identify the variables in an area of interest. A researcher-made survey questionnaire was employed, considering the mean and standard deviation statistical tools. The researcher discovered that parents are all aware of the Child Protection Policy concerning child abuse, exploitation, violence, bullying, and other forms of violations. However, parents do not fully understand what discrimination is all about. A comprehensive discussion regarding discrimination is imperative for a deeper understanding. Hence, the researcher recommends the following. (i) Schools may be encouraged to design ways and means to propagate campaigns on Child Protection Policy (ii) School heads may be encouraged to design programs and activities, and other undertakings that contribute to a deeper understanding likewise enhance Child Protection Policy awareness; and (iii) Parents may be educated and encouraged to update themselves with the new policies and guidelines regarding Child Protection Policy, especially in discrimination.
