Abstract

This systematic review investigates the influence of religious education on the development of kindness in adolescents. By drawing from biblical teachings and philosophical perspectives, the study highlights how values-based instruction nurtures moral development and encourages pro-social behavior among youth. The review synthesizes a wide range of scholarly literature from theological, philosophical, and educational disciplines to examine how religious narratives, ethical doctrines, and pedagogical approaches contribute to shaping adolescent character. Central to this inquiry is the role of religious education in promoting core values such as love, compassion, humility, and service—principles deeply rooted in biblical scripture and aligned with the ideals of philosophical humanism. Evidence suggests that adolescents exposed to consistent, meaningful religious instruction demonstrate greater empathy, tolerance, and acts of kindness toward others. The review also emphasizes the significance of the family, peer relationships, and educational institutions as influential environments for reinforcing spiritual and moral values. Furthermore, the study acknowledges the challenges of integrating religious education in increasingly diverse and secular educational settings but argues for its potential in fostering holistic character formation. Key findings reveal that when religious education is implemented with cultural sensitivity and philosophical depth, it can positively influence adolescent behavior, relationships, and worldview. Finally, the paper offers practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to integrate spiritually grounded moral education into contemporary curricula, aiming to cultivate a generation of kind, ethically aware, and socially responsible individuals. This review underscores the enduring value of religious education in the moral and emotional development of adolescents.
